TECHNICAL BULLETIN #116 - Rev 1.00 (7/30/96) ============================================================================== TITLE : Windows 95 PLUS! Dial-Up Network Server Conflict PRODUCT : PROCOMM PLUS 3.x for Windows ============================================================================== If you install the Microsoft Dial-Up Networking Server included in the Windows 95 PLUS! pack, you'll have the option to "Allow caller access" from your default modem. Unfortunately, setting this option will disable all access to the modem from 16-bit applications like PROCOMM PLUS 2.xx and 3.0 for Windows. The type of symptoms you'll encounter is a "Port in use" or "Serial port not responding" message when trying to access the modem. Hyperterminal and other native 32-bit applications that use the Microsoft dialer can use the modem/port. To disable setting up your computer as a Dial-Up Networking server: 1. Double-click the My Computer icon, and then double-click Dial-Up Networking. 2. On the Connections menu, click Dial-Up Server. 3. Click No Caller Access. 4. Click OK. You may allow caller access after using PROCOMM PLUS by doing the following: 1. Double-click the My Computer icon, and then double-click Dial-Up Networking. 2. On the Connections menu, click Dial-Up Server. 3. Click Allow Caller Access. 4. If you want to assign a password so that only those who know the password can dial into your computer, click Change Password. 5. Click Server Type. 6. Click a server from the Type of Dial-Up Server list, and then click OK. ========================================================================== To ensure that you have the latest version of this document, compare its revision number to that of the same document on any of our support sites.
