TECHNICAL BULLETIN #139 - Rev 1.00 (7/30/96) ============================================================================== TITLE : How to Use the MODEMTST ASPECT Script PRODUCT : PROCOMM PLUS 3.x for Windows ============================================================================== The MODEMTST ASPECT script is a tool designed for DATASTORM technicians to assist them in diagnosing technical problems. This document will help you to determine when to run the script, how to run the script, and how to get the information to DATASTORM technicians. WHEN TO RUN THE MODEMTST ASPECT SCRIPT You will need to run the modemtst script if one of the following is true: 1. A technician asks for you to run the script, so they can get information concerning the modem's capabilities. -or- 2. The modem that you have purchased is not on our current modems listing. NOTE: Please check the current modem listing located on our BBS. RUNNING MODEMTST Below are the steps needed to run the MODEMTST ASPECT script. 1. Click on Scripts | Run. 2. Select the PROWIN3/ASPECT/MODEMTST directory. 3. Select the MODEMTST.WAX script. 4. Click OK. 5. The Modem Information Retriever dialog box will appear. You'll be prompted for your modem's manufacturer and model, as well as your name, phone number, and the DATASTORM Technician that you are working with. 6. Click OK. 7. Modem Interrogation may take a few minutes. When it is finished, it will created a file called MODEM.NFO. MODEM.NFO MODEM.NFO contains valuable information concerning the modem's capabilities. When DATASTORM technical staff receives this information, they may use it in a variety of ways depending on why the information was requested. The technician can use MODEM.NFO for: 1. Determining if the modem supports certain capabilities such as Distinctive Ring, Caller ID, Fax Classes Support, etc. 2. Determining correct setup information for PROCOMM PLUS and your modem. 3. Getting information which will allow them to get the modem listed on our next update of the wmodems.dat (a file which contains a listing of modems). SENDING DATASTORM TECHNICAL SUPPORT THE MODEM.NFO FILE There are a couple of methods of getting the MODEM.NFO file to our Technical Support staff: 1. Fax the information to DATASTORM Technical Support. The fax number is 573.449.1552. Make sure and include your serial number on the fax. 2. Upload the file to the Quarterdeck BBS. The number for the Quarterdeck BBS is 573.875.0503.
