TECHNICAL BULLETIN #71 - Rev 1.00 (5/13/96) ============================================================================== TITLE : KERMIT File Transfer Problems PRODUCT : PROCOMM PLUS 2.01 (DOS) ============================================================================== KERMIT transfers can be tricky to troubleshoot, but problems are usually caused by a setting mismatch between the two connected parties. The KERMIT protocol contains a vast group of settings for controlling file transfers, but PROCOMM PLUS supports only those settings which are adequate for completing file transfers with almost any system. CHECK THE KERMIT SETTINGS Check the mainframe's KERMIT settings by issuing the "SHOW" command at the mainframe's "KERMIT" prompt. A list of the KERMIT settings should be displayed. To see PROCOMM PLUS' KERMIT settings, press in the Terminal mode to access the Setup Utility's main menu. Select "Protocol Options" and then select "Kermit Protocol Options". Compare the settings used on both systems. If there is a discrepancy, make the mainframe and PROCOMM PLUS settings match. Mainframe KERMIT options are usually changed with the "SET" command (e.g., "SET FILE TYPE BINARY"). Syntax of mainframe KERMIT commands can usually be found in the on-line help or the help desk's documentation. FILE CORRUPTION If your KERMIT file transfer completes but the file is corrupted, your problem is likely to be an incorrect "File Type" option on one of the systems. If you are transferring a binary (executable) file, make sure that each system is set for binary file transfers. Likewise, text files should be transferred with each system set for text file transfers. ========================================================================== To ensure that you have the latest version of this document, compare its revision number to that of the same document on any of our support sites.
