TECHNICAL BULLETIN #324 Rev. - 11/12/98 ============================================================================== TITLE : Tips (Solutions of the Week) PRODUCT: PCPlus DOS, version(s) 2.x ============================================================================== TITLE: ErrMsg: R6003 Integer Divide by Zero Error When Starting Procomm Plus The information in this document refers to: - Procomm Plus, version(s) 2.01 SYMPTOM: You are trying to install Procomm Plus 2.01 on a 200 Mhz Pentium machine and you receive the following error: Run time error R6003 - Integer divide by 0 CAUSE: There is a timing dependent routine in the startup code for Procomm Plus that is used to generate timing values for events. This routine is overwhelmed by the very fast processing power of the P6 200 Mhz machine. The result is the error above, and the system usually locks up. RESOLUTION: This has been fixed for machines up to 200Mhz.. Download the patch D2UP0001.EXE from the PCPLUS library on any of our support sites. For faster machines you will need to slow down the processor with speed controlling software like Moslo (www.hpaa.com). ========================================================================== TITLE: How to Troubleshoot IRQ and BPA Conflicts The information in this document refers to: - All version(s) SYMPTOM: IRQ Conflict symptoms are as follows: SD light is locked on RED when typing in terminal, unable to see what your typing on the terminal, although if you type ATDT you may hear a dialtone, cannot connect to hosts, lockups when accessing modem, modem will not dial, Fatal Exception errors, cannot send and/or receive faxes, intermittant connections on incoming data calls or modem will not answer. Connections results in garbage or you're unable to see prompts. BPA Conflict symptoms are as follows: Inconsistencies in connections and in receiving responses on AT commands. In order to confirm BPA Conflicts with internal modems on COM1 or COM2, deinstall your modem physically by taking it out and run DEBUG from DOS. If DEBUG lists the COM port your modem was installed in, you have a BPA Conflict. CAUSE: IRQ Conflicts: Two hardware devices using the same interrupt causes IRQ conflicts. Common mistake, Soundcards usually default to IRQ 5 which is what is reccommended for modems on COM3 or COM4. BPA Conflicts: Internal modems installed on COM1 or COM2 causes BPA conflicts. RESOLUTION: IRQ Conflicts: Use an available interrupt with your modem. In Win95 Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Device Manager | Computer will list interrupts that are being used. COM1 and COM2 interrupts cannot be changed from its defaults unless disabled from the BIOS area. BPA Conflicts: Disable physical COM ports in the BIOS area or install internal modems on COM3. ========================================================================== To ensure that you have the latest version of this document, compare its revision number to that of the same document on any of our support sites.
